We tried not to say it, we reaaally did. We hate saying it. But here we are…
We told you so.
A prospect recently came to us with a big idea. A new-to-the-world content concept. Video-first. Fresh. Creative. They wanted to test it on social and see if it gained traction.
But they had no website yet. No audience. No community. What they did have was ambition and a desire to get this right.
So, they talked to a handful of agencies, freelancers, and us. And they went with a freelance marketer, a cheaper option. No hard feelings. Truly. It happens.
But here’s where the story turns (insert ominous music here).
A few weeks later, we checked in (client or not, we care) … just curious how the launch was going.
Their response? … “What am I even paying for?”
Turns out their “cheaper” option was just… someone clicking publish (and on their own terms).
They were getting:
• Inconsistent posting – even though consistency was the entire strategy
• Slow responses (24+ hours… if at all)
• Zero optimization of profiles or channels
• No analytics or insights to guide what to do next
• Absolutely no community engagement – no comments, no interactions, no growth
• No POV, no industry presence, no actual traction
And the most important part of testing a content concept, building a community and entering the conversations that already exist, was completely missing.
After venting they asked: … “Seriously, what am I paying for?” (Now, to be fair, we are paraphrasing a bit, because a few expletives may or may not have been involved.)
And here’s what we told them.
At Joseph Rhodes Marketing, you’re not buying someone to push a button. You’re buying a system, a strategy, and a fractional team that shows up:
• A real proven content plan and posting cadence we follow
• SEO and profile optimization to set the foundation
• Real community engagement that grows your audience and puts your content where your future followers already are
• Data, analytics, and iteration, not guesswork
• Responsiveness internally and externally (because the algorithm waits for no one)
• A partner who understands how traction actually happens
Because here’s the truth:
Cheap isn’t always cheaper.
Sometimes it’s just paying $1,500 for someone to click “publish.”
While for $2,000, you could’ve had the whole system working for you.
And yes… you get what you pay for.
It’s like that $10 T-shirt I bought once. It looked great in the dressing room.
Then, after one wash, I lifted my arms and suddenly my entire midsection was saying hello. Cute for no one.
Cheap feels good in the moment.
Value feels good every day after.
